Obama moves into the Wii House

Monday, February 23, 2009

What better way to blow off steam at the end of a day spent, say, running the United States of America, than by waving a Wii remote around the family room? Just ask Obama.

A Nintendo Wii game console was one of the items moved into the 216-year-old White House when the Obamas assumed the address last month. Newly inaugurated President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, bought a Wii for their daughters, Sasha, 7, and Malia, 10, during the Christmas season.

According to Australia’s Herald Sun newspaper, the popular console is connected to the television in the mansion’s family room, which will be occupied by children for the first time since 1993, when 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton spent time there.

I wonder if the first family will choose to play Wii Bowling or go for the real thing (Richard Nixon had a bowling alley installed at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in the ‘60s).

On a related note, many gamers are creating Obama Miis on the Wii (or Avatars on the Xbox 360), which are cartoon representations of the U.S. president that are used for in-game characters or online chats with other players.
