Gift Idea for Dads and Uncles

Monday, April 18, 2011

If you're the father or favorite uncle of a young girl or tween, perhaps by now you've heard of PixieHollow, an online portal that lets kids create and customize fairies like Tinker Bell. Kids play a handful of mini games, chat with others, and collect virtual items, including clothing, accessories, and decor for their fairy's world. Disney says nearly eight million Disney Fairies avatars have been created to date.

And if you want to continue your role as the favorite uncle/dad, here's a great Christmas gift idea: check out the new Clickables Fairy toys, a handful of collectible (and connectable) items, such as a jewelry box with USB connectivity to a computer, necklace, charm bracelets, individual charms, and hand-held game (prices range from $6 to $30). On the back of the 31 different charms is a small Y-shaped sensor that, when pressed up against a spot on the PC-connected jewelry box, unlocks additional online content (not unlike typing a code that comes with a Webkinz toy). Girls can share these charms with friends to use on other Clickables products (there is no limit per charm) and also collect Tink Points to access other bonus items.

Before connecting to this online world, however, users must first download and install the Windows-based PixieHollow software (100 MB of hard drive space is required).
