Curiously, the new iPhone still doesn’t let you record voice memos, but a free download from the just-launched AppStore adds this functionality -- and a lot more.
Jott for iPhone not only lets you record your reminders or million-dollar ideas while on the go but will also transcribe your ramblings into text for you.
Simply tap the record button and leave yourself a verbal note. Jott will then turn that audio file into text and add it to your Jott notepad. Use your fingertip to cross off the note when you no longer need it. You can also choose to receive an email copy of your notes.
Registration is free but required.

I am a syndicated technology journalist and author. I've spent the last 12 years waist-deep in gadgets, gizmos, gear and games. I'm very much living the "digital lifestyle," whether I'm flashing barcodes on my BlackBerry to board a plane, backing up my laptop's data onto a USB memory watch (Ok, so I know it's geeky) or jamming with my three kids in Rock Band. Like you, I love this stuff. So come back every Monday and Wednesday for new entries.
