While you can easily transfer music from a computer to an iPod, it's no secret you can't copy tunes from an iPod to a PC.

In an effort to help curb piracy, Apple puts this restriction on its popular portable media players, but there is plenty of third-party software available that bypass this obstacle (in case, say, you want to back up your music library on a second computer).

A new gadget, however, lets you share files between iPods -- without needing a computer altogether. The miShare ($99) connects two iPods through its dock connector, and with a push of a button, transfers files and even playlists, memory permitting.

The small On switch lets you toggle between music, photos and videos. Users will then have the option to transfer the last song or video played to its end, or they can do that by holding down the miShare button for three seconds to transfer files through an On-The-Go playlist.

The USB 2.0-speed connection ensures a typical song transfer in about 10 seconds, while a short home video could be about 30 seconds, depending on the length and file format, says miShare. Supported iPods include all mini, nano, 3G, 4G, Video (5G) and Classic (6G) iPod models. Sorry, no Shuffles will work with the miShare since they lack the iPod's standard 30-pin dock connector, nor will this tool work with the iPhone or iPod Touch (though the site says its working on a firmware update to accommodate these models).
