Free radio recorder works like a charmWednesday, October 14, 2009Imagine if there were a program to record music from hundreds of online radio stations with the click of a mouse and even schedule recordings like a VCR does. It exists -- and it's free, to boot. The Crawler Radio & MP3 Player (mp3radio) is a mere 603KB download that lets you listen to and record Internet radio streams, by selecting from preloaded stations (most without commercials) or by adding your own favorite online radio stations. If you need to leave the house but want to record an upcoming show, pull up the scheduler and select which station to record from the drop-down menu, what time to begin recording, and what time to end. Now you can listen to that recorded audio anytime (and offline, too). Because files are saved as MP3s, you can also copy the tracks to a portable music player, such as an iPod. Quality varies between stations, however, maxing out at 192 kilobits per second. Preloaded stations are listed by popularity or by genre (rock, pop, classical, alternative, country, gospel, and so on). For easy access, a handy option upon installation is adding a Crawler Radio & MP3 Player toolbar in your Web browser. Crawler's Terms of Use policy includes a disclaimer that you must not use the service to upload or distribute copyrighted material.
Dick Tracy, eat your heart outMonday, January 26, 2009The world’s first 3G cell phone watch was just unveiled at the 42nd annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Dubbed the GD910, LG Electronics’ wrist-mounted phone houses a 1.4-inch touch-screen that can be used to dial a number, in case you don’t want to use its built-in voice-dialing option. The GD910 also features Bluetooth connectivity (so it’ll work with your wireless headset), a speakerphone, text-to-speech technology (hear your text messages read to you), and a built-in MP3 player. The wrist phone also makes video calls, thanks to a small camera in the top right corner of the screen. The WCDMA (wideband code division multiple access) phone supports the latest 7.2Mbps (megabits per second) HSPA (high-speed packet access) data system, so file downloads should be superfast. Want to be accessible while going for a swim? LG says the GD910 is also waterproof. With all of these features you’d expect this phone watch to be huge, but surprisingly, it’s quite small, comfortable, and easy to navigate using your fingertip. The price for the GD910 hasn't been announced yet, nor are there any carriers publicly committed to the product, but it’s expected to go on sale in Asia and Europe sometime by mid-2009.
